Askew’s Foods is looking for a Meat Manager to join our team. This position will be situated in our downtown store which is located in the heart of Salmon Arm.

Role Summary:

The Meat Manager is part of the store management team, which assists with overall strategy and planning of the store. The Meat Manager is responsible for the overall management of the meat department.  This involves:

·         Setting budgets and targets for the department;

·         Maintaining adequate stock through timely delivery and efficient inventory management

·         Negotiating prices and deals with suppliers to ensure that our pricing is competitive

·         Supervising and scheduling employees in the department

·         Train, develop, mentor, motivate team members in a manner that builds and sustains a high-performance team and minimizes turnover

·         Promoting health and safety within the department

·         Providing outstanding service to our customers

·         Managing all merchandising and advertising for the department

·         Working with the Meat Managers of the other Askew’s stores to produce a weekly ad as part of a sales and marketing plan that satisfies customer needs and enables you to work within department budgets and meet targets for sales, margins, wage costs.

Education & Experience Desired:

·         5 years related meat department experience

·         Journeyman Meat Cutter

·         4 years of experience in a role that involves leading and managing employees

o   (eg assistant or 2nd person)

·         Experience in managing sales, margins and budgets

·         Training in supervision, leadership, customer service, conflict resolution, budgeting, advertising and promotion, employee training and development and food safe would be an asset

·         Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Interests:

·         Interest in business and, in particular, an interest in meat merchandising

·         High energy, enthusiastic, and displays an affinity for our products, core values, and company philosophy

·         Leading a team to set and achieve common goals

·         Customer service skills

·         Problem solving skills

·         Efficient, hardworking and productive

·         Able and willing to present your views in staff meetings

·         Takes responsibility for all of the areas under their jurisdiction including food safety, employee health and safety, staffing, customer service and the effective and efficient use of company resources.
